Network Tools for iOS Developers. Instantly Check the Status of the Network Connection and the Routes
Reading Time: 3 minutesUpdated on Jan. 09, 2020: We’ve stopped support of Network Tools. The team that developed the app is now entirely focused on KeepSolid VPN Unlimited and other online security products and bundles. Check out what’s already available here and stay tuned for our new solutions!
Network Tools has tons of features and tools all wrapped in a package that is deceptively simple to use for such a technologically heavy purpose like developing an application. Our smart utility allows you not only to add custom domains for HTTP(s) availability checks, and get a detailed list of all devices using your network, but also show system network interfaces and routes on your device, as well as stats on intermediate network hops, and the list goes on.
Let’s dwell on the network interfaces and network routes today.
Network interfaces
This tool is similar to “ifconfig” utility that shows all system network interfaces along with associated addresses. With the interfaces tool, you can check the status of the device’s network connection. You will find all necessary parameters that allow you to understand whether the service works properly or there are some deviances. On the picture below, we offer you an example of a stable work of the VPN service.
This is a beneficial feature for you while developing and debugging applications.
Moreover, this tool contains the Bonjour service browser. Our app will provide the list of available Bonjour services on your network and a low-level information about them. Choose one and discover TCP/IP-based devices and services they offer on your local network.
For example, Bonjour lets you connect a printer to your network without the need to assign it a specific IP address or manually enter that address into each computer. With Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, you can discover its existence and automatically determine the printer’s IP address. Even if this address is a dynamically assigned address that changes, your device will automatically discover a new IP. This case is also subjected to routers, servers, laptops, and other portable devices.
Network routes
Routing enables a device to communicate with other devices that are not on the same
network. It is like vehicles for a human transportation. The main point of this process is that a router that is connected to at least two networks makes a decision about where to send the packets it receives.
The way the router determines where a packet with a particular destination address should be sent is by consulting a routing table. A routing table contains information about the topology of your network, and will show you the full list of the routes to particular destinations.
Using Network Tools, you are able to save routes in a traditional format (please see the picture below), and export them to your email or Notes, or share via Cloud services.
With a user-friendly interface and a great number of relevant features, Network Tools makes it easier to develop your new apps, and rank among the first on the market. Download our top-notch app for absolutely free, and simplify your networking process right away!
